It is a viral disease that causes inflammation in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and severe itching. The pathogen is a resilient herpes virus.
The disease is almost exclusively fatal. Humans are not susceptible to the pseudo-anger virus, as opposed to rabies. The source of infection is mainly raw pork. The pathogen first multiplies in the lymphatic tissue of the digestive tract and then spreads to the central nervous system.
After an incubation period of 2 to 9 days, the first symptoms appear: fatigue and loss of appetite, followed by secretion of mouth saliva and paralysis of the oral cavity and esophagus. The itching is severe and cannot be suppressed by any measures. The dogs scratch and bite each other until they bleed. Sometimes fits of rage occur. In the final stage there is severe paralysis.
The disease invariably leads to death.
There is no vaccination for this disease. However, dog owners must urgently be advised of the danger of feeding raw pork!
