A feed allergy or food allergy is itchy eczema due to diet-related allergens.
The allergens are consumed with the food. The dog can have an allergic reaction to different types of meat (for example chicken or beef), fish, less often milk and milk products, eggs, rice or grain (mostly wheat).
Your four-legged friend can develop itchy eczema in various forms: pustules, scales, crusts, reddened skin or thickening of the skin. Because of the itching, the dog scratches itself. This can cause scratches, which in turn can lead to secondary skin diseases.
If the allergen has been recognized correctly and the diet is strictly adhered to, the chances of a cure are usually very good.
