Dogs have a huge impact on children. They also keep adults mentally and physically fit. And that is decisive: Dr. Caroline Kramer, an endocrinologist at the University of Toronto, told CNN that the general risk of death for dog owners was reduced by a full 24 percent. Further studies show that dogs do a lot more for us.
Dog owners are less likely to be overweight, have high blood pressure, or have high cholesterol – all risk factors for cardiovascular disease. No wonder: every day you have to meet your dog’s urge to move and move yourself to do so.
American scientists from Michigan State University found that dog owners were much more likely to achieve the recommended exercise time of 150 minutes per week. This can prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer or chronic bronchitis.
Another positive effect: walking around the gas in any weather strengthens the immune system. Dogs keep us so fit and healthy!

Not only do dog owners have fewer heart problems, but they also have better chances of getting well again. This is proven by an American study: Of 92 patients who had already suffered a heart attack, 94 percent of the animal owners survived after one year – only 72 percent of the usual subjects.
A study from Sweden shows that dog owners recover faster after severe cardiovascular disease. The same also applies to other diseases: If a dog owner is sick, his condition usually remains at a constant level. Seizures, like those with bronchitis, are less severe.

Every dog lover will confirm: dogs make you happy. And that too has been scientifically proven. Alone in the presence of an animal, but especially when you stroke it, your body releases oxytocin, the so-called “cuddle hormone”.
The endocrinologist Dr. Caroline Kramer of the University of Toronto states that just petting a dog lowers blood pressure as much as a drug. When there is contact with animals, fewer stress hormones such as adrenaline or cortisol are released.
Dogs also help against loneliness: During the walking tours you can quickly get into conversation and dogs even help with flirting.

Science has also shown how good dogs are for children. A Finnish study found that children from dog households are less ill than others. Dogs also support their immune system: those who grow up with a dog from birth halve the risk of developing allergies or asthma later.
Dogs also make children more social. In France it was found that children with dog experience have excellent social skills: They are particularly responsible and sociable. They are also less aggressive than children who do not have a dog at home.

Dogs are good for the body and soul. But what exactly is the reason has not yet been clearly clarified. That the dog alone is the reason for the healthy life of its owner cannot be confirmed.
Nor is it that dog owners owe their above-average fitness only to increased physical activity. One thing is certain, however: dogs make us happy and keep us healthy.
