“It looks like it’s going to rain” is a very fun exercise where your dog starts looking up at your command. For this trick, you can use a short command like “Up!”, Or a long one, “It looks like it’s going to rain.”
To teach your pet this trick you will need a clicker and an auxiliary item (pointer, stick or pencil). Please note that if you previously learned tricks with your dog, where it should touch the pointer with its nose, or sticks with its paw, then these items cannot be used. Otherwise, the dog will be confused when it is necessary to touch the object with its nose, when with its paw, and when it is just to look at it.
Let in our case a pencil be an auxiliary object. Take it in your hand, stand in front of the dog and, if necessary, move it a little to make it interested. As soon as you see the dog looking at the pencil, click the clicker and reward him.… Repeat the exercise several times.
When your dog has learned to do the exercise flawlessly, start pulling the pencil back a little behind its head. From the side it should seem that the dog lifts its muzzle to look at the sky. At the same time, make sure that he always takes the same pose.
Over time, enter the voice command for the exercise and begin to discard the assistive device.
- In the future, you can complicate the exercise by teaching the dog to hold an umbrella or other object in its teeth while looking up.
