Water and beach games

Have fun in the cool water

At special dog beaches you can go into the water with your four-legged friend. Inquire at the city or local authority for the appropriate corners and treat yourself and your dog to a wonderful day on the beach.

Water rats who love fetching can be very happy if you let them get things out of the water. However, both of you will have even more fun if you throw the toy in the water and then both swim there. You can find suitable floating equipment in specialist shops.

Brave dogs don’t swim themselves, they let others do the work for them: They ride on air mattresses or in inflatable and rowing boats. But please stay close to the shore so that the dog can swim the rest of the way in case it should jump into the water.

What you should definitely pay attention to

Important: If your dog is very hot, don’t let him jump into the water straight away. In animals, too, this puts too much strain on the circulatory system. Better: First just go in with your paws and let yourself wade in the water.

Many dogs are more likely to splash around than swimmers anyway. Under no circumstances should these animals be forced to go swimming, this only increases their aversion to water. Just accept your pet’s preferences, after all, don’t let your hobbies be dictated to you.

Tips for those who shy away from water

In addition, you can have a lot of fun near the water without diving: If your dog prefers to dive in the shallower bank area, for example, you can sink heavy balls made of solid rubber or larger treats for him there. Or you both practice treading water à la Kneipp together in a stream. On the beach you can play frisbee or football together, dig in the sand, and create water channels. Your dog will be fascinated by your ingenuity and will be happy to assist you in all activities.

If you don’t have any natural water nearby, you can also use a plastic tub or a children’s paddling pool in your garden for a change. So that your dog doesn’t get injured out of sheer enthusiasm, you should secure the slippery floor with a shower tray insert.
